The Advisory Retainer, Worked: Strategic Sensing as a Service

The sensing-to-advisory bridge (BR.10) translated the research pipeline into an offer: strategic advisory. The advisory retainer is the worked example — the client doesn’t buy reports; they buy a standing relationship with the sensing layer (S10 series): what the research pipeline is seeing, what it means for their business, and what to do about it. This is what a strategic advisory engagement actually looks like.

The sensing operation behind it

The advisory retainer runs on the standing research cadence (S10.13): scan the sources (arxiv, blogs, markets), synthesize the signals, and publish the brief. The client’s brief is a tenant of that cadence — their industry, their competitors, their risks — monitored by the same pipeline that monitors the kingdom’s own domain. The prediction markets (S10.5) and signal sources (S10.6) feed the brief with the same evidence discipline the kingdom’s own research uses (S10.14).

The deliverable cycle

The retainer’s cycle is monthly: a strategy brief (what changed, what it means, what to do), a quarterly deep dive (the simulation of the client’s business model under the new signals — SIM-2, SIM-4), and a standing dashboard (EX-3) that tracks the client’s key signals. The advisory retainer is the bridge service (EX-5) in its purest form: the client buys the connection between their business and the sensing layer, and the connection keeps delivering as long as the retainer runs.

Why advisory compounds

The advisory retainer compounds because the sensing layer gets smarter about the client’s domain with every cycle — the research debt ledger (S10.15) and the simulation ledger (SIM-9) accumulate a body of evidence specific to the client. The retainer becomes harder to replace the longer it runs, which is the retention engine (S6.16) at work. The advisory retainer is the business form of the research track — the S10 series’ knowledge, packaged as a standing relationship.
