The Standing Gap List: A Living Document for the Next Five Hundred
The gap audit (S10-19) produces findings; the standing gap list is the artifact those findings flow into. It is the corpus’s debt ledger for content: every implied-but-unpublished article is a line item, tagged by cluster and series, prioritized by reader value. The list is never finished — it is maintained. Each round consumes its top lines and appends the new gaps that the round’s own posts reveal. This is the document the editorial board (SECTOR07a-17) reads before approving the next batch.
The list as an intake system
The standing gap list sits between the IDEAS-BACKLOG and the publish pipeline. The backlog is the source of raw ideas; the gap list is the source of disciplined ones. An idea enters the gap list only when it passes the neighbor test: it must be implied by an existing post, missing from the corpus, and valuable to a reader who landed in either cluster. Ideas that fail the test stay in the backlog until they earn a neighbor. This is the intake discipline that keeps the corpus dense instead of sprawling.
What the list says about this round
At the start of Round D, the gap list’s top lines were: operational runbooks for agent fleets (now the OP series), simulation promotion gates (now the SIM series), and worked business-model examples (now the EX series). The research track of this round closes the meta-gap: the map of the corpus, the audit that finds gaps, the tag governance that keeps the graph queryable, and the bridge ledger that records new edges. By the end of the round, the list’s top lines are the next round’s brief.
The list as a promise
A standing gap list is a promise to the reader: the corpus knows what it does not yet know, and it is working on it. That is the difference between a blog and a knowledge engine — the engine has a map of its own ignorance, and the map is public.
