## The Skill Product, Worked: Packaging Capability, Not Output

The kingdom sells capability, not output (SECTOR07a-39): a client does not buy articles, dashboards, or reports — they buy the skill that produces them, and the skill keeps producing after the engagement ends. This is the worked example of the skill product: what a packaged capability looks like, how it is priced, and what the client actually receives.

## The anatomy of a skill product

A skill product bundles four things: the capability (the skill itself — a research pipeline, a visual pipeline, a security review), the interface (how the client invokes it — a dashboard, a request form, an API), the evidence (the outputs it has produced — the portfolio, the audit records, the case studies), and the update path (how the skill improves over time — the same skill lifecycle as S4.9). The client buys the bundle, not the individual artifact. The research pipeline (S10.13) becomes a subscription the client can invoke; the visual pipeline (S9.4) becomes a retainer that never sleeps.

## The pricing of a capability

Capability pricing looks different from output pricing. An output has a price per unit; a capability has a price per period — the retainer (EX-9), the tier (S6.8), the rent-to-own term (EX-1). The price reflects what the capability can do over time, not what one invocation costs. The meter (S6.12) tracks usage, and the simulation layer (SIM-2) can test the pricing before launch: what will clients pay for a research subscription? The sandbox answers before the invoice is printed.

## What the client receives

The skill product’s deliverable is the capability itself: the client learns to run it, owns the outputs it produces, and holds the option to run it themselves at the end of the term (the ownership track of EX-1). The skill product is the white-label publishing offer (EX-6) and the client-wiki offer (EX-14) in their general form: a packaged capability with the provider’s brand on the box and the client’s brand on the output. Selling capability is how the stack turns its library of skills into a product line.

*Grounded in the EX worked-example series, the SECTOR07a-39 skills-as-products article, the S4 skills-canvas series, and the S6.3 rent-to-own model. Second article in the Round D examples track.*
