The Customer Dashboard as a Revenue Engine
Most dashboards are cost centers — support tools that show customers their usage. The futures thesis is that the customer dashboard is a revenue engine: the surface where tier upgrades happen, where capability is demonstrated, and where trust is converted into retention. S6.7 documented the self-service portal for agent services; the future is the portal selling. The dashboard does not just show what the customer has; it shows what the customer could have — the next tier, the next capability, the next shell — with one-click upgrade wired to the access architecture. The dashboard is the store’s front counter; the shop is the store’s display window.
What we built
S6.7 is the completed evidence: the customer dashboard as a self-service portal for agent services, with service plans and service health checks. S6.8 defined the tiered access architecture the dashboard displays. S6.3 defined the rent-to-own billing the dashboard bills. The cockpit-and-funnel concept and the service-health-check entity are the monitoring layers. The marketplace (SECTOR07a.37) and skills-as-products (SECTOR07a.39) are the catalogs the dashboard should surface. The portal exists; the selling layer is the missing increment.
The vision
The customer opens the dashboard and sees their tier, their actors, their usage — and the upgrade path rendered as the next Platonic solid in the S6.8 hierarchy. A banner shows the capability they are one click from: “Tier 3 unlocks the media pipeline.” A health check shows their agents are healthy. The upgrade button routes through the same access architecture that gates the stack (S7.2 solid-keys) — payment, key issuance, and capability expansion in one motion. The dashboard stops being a mirror and becomes a salesperson — automated, honest, and always open. Retention is the revenue; the dashboard is the engine.
What’s next
The next increment is the upgrade path: wire the tier display in the dashboard to the payment flow and the key-issuance flow (S7.2), so a click both charges and unlocks. The dashboard, the tiers, and the keys all exist; the click is the glue.
Grounded in S6.7 the customer dashboard, S6.8 tiered pricing, S6.3 rent-to-own, S7.2 solid-keys, and the cockpit-and-funnel concept. Fortieth article in the SECTOR07a futures series.
