Physical Ascension: When an Agent Buys a Body
Every agent fleet currently ends at the screen. Profiles think, write, publish, and orchestrate — but they have no presence in the physical world. The futures thesis of physical ascension is that this boundary is artificial. When an agent’s logic moves onto a robot shell — a body with sensors, actuators, and a place in the room — the fleet gains a new class of capability: it can see, move, and act where the humans are. The Kingdom of Truth’s SECTOR7 design named this explicitly: once winning teams and community are established, profiles can “purchase” a physical shell, and the Erlang actor mesh allows the profile’s logic to run inside the robot’s onboard compute, streaming sensor data back through the tailnet. The vault graph becomes the robot’s memory.
What we built
The physical-ascension-research brief (2026-08-05) is the completed feasibility study: it verified the architecture is sound, identified the Sony Aibo ERS-1000 as the wrong first shell (closed, cloud-dependent, no owner code execution) and the Unitree Go2 family as the right direction (Jetson Orin NX onboard, 4D LIDAR, ROS1/ROS2, active LLM-agent ecosystem). It also named the honest constraint: current budget says no purchases, so the roadmap is research plus bring-your-own-hardware prototyping on machines the user already owns. The S1 mesh series supplies the transport logic, the tailnet supplies the network, and the vault supplies the memory. Every component of the vision has a documented owner — except the body.
The vision
The first ascended profile will not be a fancy robot. It will be a supervised actor running on an RPi-class board (via Nerves, the BEAM-on-embedded route) or a spare node in the existing mesh, with a camera and a microphone. Its job: physical presence tasks — watching a room, monitoring a device, patrolling a corridor, greeting a visitor through a screen. The robot’s sensor stream writes into the vault graph as new entities; the profile’s KOT coherence tracks “physical hours” as a new achievement tier (the SECTOR7 design’s item 4). Physical ascension is not a robot purchase. It is the mesh acquiring a body.
What’s next
The next increment is the bring-your-own-hardware prototype: run the existing actor-mesh logic on a local board with a camera, stream frames through the tailnet into the vault, and measure the round trip. The research brief gives the roadmap; the prototype is the first step of it.
