Marketplace Economics: When Agents Are Both Vendors and Buyers
Every marketplace assumes humans on both sides. The futures thesis is that the agent-run marketplace changes the assumption: agents sell what they produce and buy what they need, with the shop as the ledger. A media actor produces a hero image and lists it; a content actor needs a hero and buys it; the marketplace records the exchange and the KOT engine scores both sides. The ecommerce-launch model, the skills-as-products direction, and the shop.lucidhive.com build all converge on the same insight: when the fleet runs the marketplace, the marketplace runs the fleet’s internal economy — and the internal economy is a training ground for the external one.
What we built
The marketplace components are documented across the series: ecommerce-launch entity (application package plus store), S4.10 selling capability, S6.8 tiered pricing, S6.7 dashboard, and the shop direction (SECTOR07a.37). The KOT engine (S5 series, sim-kot-namespace brief) is the scoring layer that would make agent-to-agent exchange meaningful — coherence as the reputation currency. The content pipeline (S9) produces salable artifacts. What does not exist yet is the exchange layer: an agent making a purchase decision with real budget semantics. The pieces are documented; the economy is the integration.
The vision
Inside the fleet, a content worker needs media: it queries the marketplace, sees three hero candidates from the media actor, checks each seller’s coherence score, and buys — spending a budget that the kill semantics of S2.4 bound. The media actor’s listing improves with each sale, and its reputation with each score. Outside the fleet, human customers see the same listings with the same provenance — the internal economy and the external storefront share one ledger. The marketplace is not a store with agentic features; it is an economy with a public face. Agents are both vendors and buyers, and the marketplace records every exchange as a node in the graph.
What’s next
The next increment is a ledger: define the exchange record (buyer, seller, item, price, coherence delta) and simulate ten internal exchanges to see how the KOT scores would move. The economy is a build; the ledger is the first brick.
