From Simulated to Live: The Promotion Gate Revisited
S8.3 defined the promotion gate — the moment a simulated capability is judged ready for live operation. The futures thesis is that the gate is the most important governance structure in the company, because it is the boundary between the sandbox and the real world, between ideas and history, between “the fleet thinks” and “the fleet does.” This article revisits the gate through the lens of the futures round: the promotion gate is not only for business models; it is for every direction this series has proposed — the mesh, the shells, the marketplace, the 3D rooms, the channel. Each one must pass the gate before it becomes real.
What we built
S8.3 is the canonical reference: from simulated to live, the promotion gate. S8.1 proved the sim loop, S8.10 stated the honest limits (when to trust the simulation). The SECTOR7 design made the gate part of the graph’s state machine — hovering is simulated, accepted is live, and acceptance fires real tasks. The sim-kot-namespace brief added the scoring isolation: a simulated profile’s coherence is local until its cluster is accepted. The staging cluster cards are the backlog of directions waiting at the gate. The gate is designed and documented; the checklist that makes it repeatable is the missing increment.
The vision
The promotion gate is a defined review with a checklist: Is the direction grounded in evidence? Has it been simulated with real numbers? Has it passed the tag and taxonomy checks? Has the risk been named (the honest-limits discipline of S8.10)? What is the exit if it fails? A direction that answers all five moves from hovering to accepted; the cluster-to-kanban translator (SECTOR07a.32) fires the tasks; the swarm executes. The gate is not a bottleneck — it is a filter that keeps the real world clean. Every direction in this series — the knob room, the shop, the shell, lucid.tv — will pass through it. The gate is where the futures round becomes the present.
What’s next
The next increment is the gate checklist itself, seeded by S8.3 and S8.10, and a first review pass over the directions this series proposed. The design exists; the discipline is the build.
