A cathedral window does not hide what is on the other side. It transforms it. The glass receives raw, undifferentiated light — sunlight, moonlight, storm light — and breaks it into narrative. A gothic window does not make everything equally bright. It makes specific things glow. The deep blue of the central pane, the amber of the border, the crimson accent — each color is a signal.
